為什麼有些細菌會致病、有些不會？為什麼有些細菌需要依賴宿主存活、有些不用？要回答這些問題，需要比較不同的細菌，找出其中基因的異同處，就如同推理劇般一步步推敲細菌們的演化史。

動物在稍微匱乏下開始合作行為，反而讓族群達到最大。人類解決資源分配問題的方法，常常是開發更多資源，但如果開發之後社會成員的行為卻更加自私，就會適得其反。
